Beast Machines has wrapped its TV run, and Brian’s Computer gives the Endgame finale a 4 out of 10. This May 8, 2000 Radio Free Cybertron is hosted by Brian’s Computer while Brian is away. Goldimus Prime reviews Beast Wars Transmetal Optimal Optimus, and John DeLuna’s ATT Buzz finds alt.toys.transformers in a reviewing mood. Mop Boy answers listener mail in Ask RFC.
ATT Buzz
John DeLuna says the newsgroup has been pretty dull lately. Beast Machines is over, and he doubts ATT cares much either way. He notes the TV series wrapped only about a year after its debut. BotCon is creeping up, so the usual carpool and hotel posts are coming. ATT has gone review crazy, with G1 Aerialbots, the Beast Wars Mutants, Blackarachnia and Thrust all covered. Blackarachnia and Thrust get thumbs up, while the Mutants are decent at best and Razorclaw gets some thumbs down. John won’t touch the Mutants, though he thinks Poison Bite looks decent. Ask RFC
Mop Boy answers an email from Clayton J. Reyes with a joke list of “Skur” Happy Meal characters. On how many listeners RFC has, he jokingly calculates a total of two. He also praises the songs page at TFW2005 and plays the parody “Let’s Roll” from it.
Trivia
There was no trivia last week, so there is no winner to name. This week’s clip is “Be on guard. We could be heading into another Decepticon trap.” Answers are accepted until May 12 at noon Eastern.
Toy Review: Beast Wars Transmetal Optimal Optimus
Goldimus Prime reviews the supersized Optimal Optimus, the biggest Beast Wars toy made, with four modes. He praises the poseability in beast and robot modes, and he likes the jet mode’s 17-inch wingspan. The assault vehicle mode is hard to reach, falls apart at the wheel, and he calls it ugly. The blast panels pop off, the cannon assembly flops around, and the instructions are a joke. The lights fire through the missile launchers, which he finds risky for the eyes. He calls him more of a $25 to $27 toy than a $30 one, but would buy him again. Optimal Optimus gets an 8 out of 10.
Episode Review: Beast Machines Endgame, Part 3: The Seeds of the Future
Brian’s Computer says season one was repetitive and boring, while season two kept viewers guessing. The finale’s long Megatron and Primal fight is drawn out and cliched, and the ending gets too little time. The Computer calls the episode season one fodder and picks “the seeds of my future” as the bad line of the episode. It gives the finale a 4 out of 10, which would have been a 5 without the Waspinator scene.
