Beast Wars Transmetals Listed for PlayStation 2

Hitman Pez, Chris Triplett, found Beast Wars Transmetals for PlayStation 2 listed at Express.com for September 2001. Brian expects it to be the same game as the PlayStation and Nintendo 64 versions. When he posted the link to alt.toys.transformers, it broke in two, and the first half led to an adult game, drawing some leery replies. [Source: Express.com]

RFC On Your Site

A new link at the top of tfradio.net offers HTML snippets that let listeners put the current week’s RFC webcast on their own homepages. It covers only the current show, not the archives, over copyright and credit concerns. Brian says John DeLuna, Tony Fitz and Goldimus Prime are all off this week.

Trivia

Last week’s clip came from “Maximal No More.” Correct answers came from Donovan Moser, Robert Ranting (Bobby Brown), the Castellan and Tigerhawk. Brian plays a new clip twice; answers go to brian at tfradio.com.

Point the Blame

HooperX gives his take on Hasbro’s 2001 lineup. He likes the last Beast Machines Battle for the Spark toys, including Supreme Optimus Primal, Stryka and Noble, but says the line as a whole leaves him at “okay.” He calls Robots in Disguise filler while Hasbro readies something big for 2002, and calls Car Robots a horrific show and a lackluster line. Repackaged Beast Wars II Dirge and Thrust are coming in packs with Indy Heat and Wrecker Hook, while Brave Maximus is apparently not. He hopes JRX and the Bruticus mold stay home, calling the Combaticons some of the worst Transformers ever made. Confirmed G1 names include Ironhide, Mirage, Prowl, Optimus Prime and Ultra Magnus, but he worries about a missing Starscream. His bottom line: corporations love money, not fans.

Bringing in the Idiots

Robotech Master debuts with a response to fears that Robots in Disguise will flood alt.toys.transformers with idiots. He notes the same fear before Beast Wars led to the split-off alt.toys.transformers.classic.moderated, and the group survived. He argues each new show, comic or toy line gives fans new things to talk about, unlike Robotech, whose discussion has largely died out. He doubts many kids will find Usenet, which works as its own cluefulness filter, and quotes a Salon article on its barriers. Newcomers who stay will bring new points of view, and he sees that as a positive.

Brian closes with a promise of a longer show next week.
