Transformers 3 Set for July 1, 2011 Without Orci and Kurtzman

Transformers 3 has a July 1, 2011 release date, and Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman are not writing it. Ehren Kruger stays on, and Brian notes he wrote much of Revenge of the Fallen’s humor. One host doesn’t care who writes it, while Brian credits the films for weaving in elements of Transformers history. The crew agrees Michael Bay has ruled out Dinobots and Don Murphy once ruled out Beasts. Brian pitches the Neo-Knights as the most off-the-wall option, and one host jokes about a forced G.I. Joe crossover. [Source: not found]

News from Cybertron

Turin reports that the Autobot Counterpunch was found dead at a Decepticon base. A software update flagged him as a non-genuine Decepticon and told the others to shoot his torso. Ultra Magnus calls murder a tragedy, and the Autobot Punch is reported missing.

RFC Twitter Theater: Robots in Disguise, The Decepticons

This week’s episode introduced Scourge and the Commandos, the Robots in Disguise take on the Combaticons. The verdict is that it blows and didn’t live up to the hype. Optimus mostly stands and watches, and the Autobots debate salvage rights. The crew argues over the space shuttle mode’s scale, the G1 Scramble City size problems and names like Mega-Octane and Rollbar. One host prefers the next episode, where Ruination first awakens. Next week’s Twitter Theater will be the joke 1992 tape-recorder RFC episode.

Listener Interview: Doofy

Doofy, whose name is Ian, is 25 and studying game art and design at the Art Institute of Tampa. He has listened since 1999, when he was 15. He grew up on yard-sale G1 toys in Oregon, then Beast Wars pulled him back in. He frequented Big Bot, posted as OneTransFan, and now posts as Doofy on the AllSpark. He likes the Animated toys but hasn’t seen much of the show, and the crew urges him to watch. He asks about the new Revenge of the Fallen Bludgeon photos. Brian says Bludgeon looks awesome now that he’s properly transformed, though one host calls the head a skull wearing a skull mask. Talk turns to wished-for appliance alt modes and a Duocon washer and dryer, plus KB Toys going under.

Fan-Made Accessories We’d Like to See

Ideas include a Superion-style upgrade kit for Bruticus Maximus and a parts kit for Beast Wars toys. The crew recalls Unicron.com’s early Beast Machines set, its Megatron tail attachment and its Energon cubes. One host wants new generic weapon sets with stands, another wants the G2 extra weapons and bandoliers, and another wants official Animated human figures like Sari. The crew draws the ethics line at kits that steer fans away from official toys. The G1 Sharkticon kit and the miniature Masterpiece-style Convoy knockoff cross that line, while weapon kits are fine.

The RFC Bacon Party

Rob Springer explains the RFC Bacon Party: get together with nearby listeners next Thursday, eat bacon while listening to RFC, and send pictures or video. Photos go up on the site, and video goes on RFC’s new YouTube channel.

Bootleg Finds

Rob found a bootleg Transformers: The Movie sticker book at a dollar store, with Transformers spelled out in Comic Sans. The pink sticker sheets mix movie stills, toy photos and an early fire-truck Ratchet render. Another host recalls a friend bringing back unlicensed Armada spark-gun toys from Iraq around 2003.

RFC on YouTube and the 10th Anniversary Show

RFC now has a YouTube channel rebroadcasting its shows. Brian also asks listeners whether New Soundwave’s comic content should split into a third, comics-only show. The 10th anniversary show is next week, with a topic on how society’s view of Transformers fans has changed, and no New Soundwave this week or next.
