Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is out on DVD, and the RFC crew has a fan commentary track ready to go with it. Hasbro confirms Masterpiece Grimlock will come to the U.S. in 2010 and hints at new Transformers, G.I. Joe and My Little Pony series. Longtime fan Dak Roland talks about repairing vintage Transformers toys. Turin watches Transformers Animated for the first time, XV reviews the Ice Cream Twins, and Rob files a Roving Report from a midnight DVD release.

Today in History

JD notes three Transformers voice actor birthdays on October 23. Stan Jones, the voice of Scourge and Zarak, was born in 1926; the crew later learns he has died. Weird Al Yankovic, who voiced Wreck-Gar in Transformers Animated, turns 50. David Sobolov, Depth Charge in Beast Wars, was born in 1964. The crew agrees “Dare to Be Stupid” is the best track on the Transformers: The Movie soundtrack.

Hasbro Hints at New Transformers, G.I. Joe and My Little Pony Series for 2010

On an investor conference call, Hasbro hinted at new Transformers, G.I. Joe and My Little Pony series in 2010. JD calls it expected news, given the coming Hasbro channel, and says full details should follow at Hasbro’s November 5 investor event. The crew debates whether a new G.I. Joe show would follow the movie, Resolute or a new direction. [Source: not found]

Hasbro Confirms Masterpiece Grimlock for the U.S. in 2010

In the latest Hasbro Q&A, Action Figure Insider asked which Masterpiece Transformers would follow the Walmart exclusive Skywarp. Hasbro answered that Masterpiece Grimlock comes to the U.S. in 2010. One host hopes it includes the crown. Another wants the apron and drink tray too, and calls Marvel Comics Grimlock his Grimlock. [Source: Action Figure Insider]

Transformers Complete Series Box Set Hits Stores

The Transformers Matrix complete series box set is out at about $130. One host says he doesn’t care, since he has watched the series enough. Another host calls the price a good deal next to the Rhino release. [Source: not found]

Roving Report: Revenge of the Fallen Midnight Release

Rob heads to his local Best Buy for its midnight Revenge of the Fallen DVD release and finds the store empty. The only other visitor goes straight to the bathroom, and Rob’s attempt to interview him gets an employee in trouble. Rob leaves with a pack of Starburst and a Mountain Dew. He still wants the Target Bumblebee case and regrets missing the Walmart Megatron case.

Review: Transformers Animated, Transform and Roll Out

Turin watches the first three episodes of Transformers Animated, released on DVD as Transform and Roll Out, for the first time. His verdict: this is awesome. He likes the G1-style opening credits, Prowl as a ninja bot, Bumblebee and a Starscream who acts instead of whining. He wonders how Sari’s AllSpark key reviving Transformers will work long term. Brian urges listeners to watch Animated and recommends the AllSpark Almanac by Jim Sorensen and Bill Forster.

Interview: Dak Roland

Dak Roland, a longtime fan and Cold Hard Slag contributor, talks about repairing vintage Transformers. His Mirage waist repair guide is one of his most popular. He plans repair how-to videos with his daughter Kim and wants to test hydrogen peroxide for de-yellowing white plastic. For a first project, he suggests Jazz, since Prowl and Smokescreen come apart the same way. All you need, he says, is two opposable thumbs, a good jeweler’s screwdriver and patience.

Dak also recalls making his G1 box art wallpapers in PaintShop Pro, including Wheeljack in Chinatown. He tells how Scott McNeil and Garry Chalk sang happy birthday to his daughter at BotCon 2001. Two years later, Scott remembered her by name at the first OTFCC. He also mentions Vince DiCola giving him permission to use his music.

Toy Review: Revenge of the Fallen Mudflap and Skids

XV calls the Ice Cream Twins tiny in robot mode, since one deluxe vehicle splits into two robots. Skids has articulation that kibble blocks, while Mudflap has big boxy feet. The tabs are tight and already showing stress marks, and the molded rust spots got no paint. He still gives it an automatic pass for being an ice cream truck, but thinks a Voyager would have worked better. Another host says his copy fell apart at the ball joints during transformation.

News from Cybertron

Blast Off leaves the Combaticons to form a new space shuttle team with Astrotrain. He boasts that dropping asteroids from orbit makes a space shuttle the mightiest combat form of all, and Megatron approves the plan.

Revenge of the Fallen Second Viewing

Brian liked Revenge of the Fallen better on a second viewing, watching it with JD, Amanda and XV for the commentary. He still sees the flaws. Another host says it sucks and wants Skids and Mudflap to die. One host calls it a fun popcorn movie, not Shakespeare.

Wrap-Up

Ironhide1975 joins the show next week. The crew thanks listeners and asks them to spread the word, since RFC started over from scratch after returning in late June.
