Masterpiece Rodimus Prime Gets a Hot Rod Mode

Right after last week’s show, the crew learned Masterpiece Rodimus Prime will have a Hot Rod mode, and Brian is sold. A rumor says the US release will drop the trailer but add the Targetmaster. Brian doesn’t buy it, but calls it just silly enough to happen. One host thinks a trailerless Rodimus is worth $40 at most. Another notes Takara may already have the Targetmaster mold for a later release, as happened with Grimlock. [Source: not found]

Masterpiece Movie MP-M02 Bumblebee Announced

Takara announced Masterpiece Movie MP-M02 Bumblebee, a more detailed repaint of Battle Ops Bumblebee. The crew mocks the line for taking widely available figures and adding fancier paint. One host notes the Leader Starscream was designed by the person behind much of the Masterpiece line, which is minor justification. [Source: not found]

Takara’s Clear Voyager Wingblade Optimus

Pictures surfaced of Takara’s clear Voyager Wingblade Optimus Prime, which the crew says looks like a Jolly Rancher. One host was already mad it is a Voyager, since he wanted the deluxe without battle damage that Hasbro planned. Takara is also releasing that deluxe Optimus in opaque plastic as a raffle prize. One host found Takara’s Rollout Command Optimus Prime at around $90 after paying $20 for his. [Source: not found]

New Hasbro Trademarks Filed

New Hasbro trademark filings include Spark Your Summer, Autobot Alliance, Destination Earth, Shocktopus and Unlock the Secrets. The crew suspects several are Littlest Pet Shop, not Transformers. They note Autobot Alliance was already all over BotCon and San Diego Comic-Con. [Source: not found]

Transformers 3 Budget Reportedly Hits $400 Million

The Transformers 3 budget reportedly reached $400 million. The crew checks Wikipedia and finds it could be the most expensive movie ever, ahead of Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End at $300 million. [Source: not found]

Josh Keaton Hints He Is Bumblebee in Transformers Prime

Josh Keaton hinted he may voice Bumblebee in Transformers Prime, which has been rumored for a while. The crew says Bumblebee should have a voice. They note Keaton voiced Peter Parker in The Spectacular Spider-Man and the Flash in Crisis on Two Earths. [Source: not found]

This Day in Transformers History

With JD out, one host marks September 2, 2008, when the 2007 Transformers movie came out on Blu-ray. He says it was first released on HD DVD and owns that copy. He recalls Michael Bay threatening to quit over the HD DVD release, despite Paramount backing the format. The crew mocks Bay’s later claims that he would not return for a third movie.

Wreckers Awareness Week

Aimee is promoting Wreckers Awareness Week for the Last Stand of the Wreckers trade paperback, out today, though she hasn’t found a copy yet. The Underbase podcast reviewed it, with a full reread planned later. The Underbase is also giving away a trade paperback signed by James Roberts and Nick Roche. To enter, listen to their interview with both creators and answer a question.

Contests: RFC YouTube and TFormers

RFC is giving away a Transformers Animated Rodimus Minor, a Toys R Us exclusive, to a subscriber of its YouTube channel at tfvideo.net. The winner is picked on the last September show, the 29th. TFormers.com is running a Name Your Quote contest for War for Cybertron prizes. Prizes include a sealed War for Cybertron Bumblebee signed by Aaron Archer and posters signed by the High Moon team. Entries close on the 12th.

Twitter Theater

Rob’s Twitter Theater pick was a Microman Micro Change commercial. Toys come to life in a sleeping boy’s bedroom and a pistol floats out of his desk. The crew identifies it as the mold later used for a Masterforce figure.

Topic: Toys You Feel Obligated to Play With

A chat listener asks which toys the crew pulls out just to play with or pose. Brian names a figure he likes to pose with arms wide, as if ready to pounce. Another host keeps Activators on his work desk because quick changers need no commitment. Brian also likes G2 Optimus Prime for its voice button.
