A flu-addled Brian hosts as TFormers previews the Dark of the Moon game. It is described as War for Cybertron in the movie universe. BotCon shows box art for Transtech Cheetor and Ramjet, and a new head for the Warpath mold looks like Hardhead. A Transformers MMO is announced, and Transformers Prime introduces Knock Out and Breakdown. The topic is the Transformers video games the crew still wants, led by Brian’s dream of a real fighting game.

Dark of the Moon Game Preview

TFormers saw a hands-off demo of the Dark of the Moon game. Peter relays that it plays like War for Cybertron moved into the movie universe. The crew hopes it avoids War for Cybertron’s punishing difficulty spikes. The game is due in June. Brian shows off his Famicom copy of Return of Convoy. [Source: not found]

Shout! Factory Beast Wars Box Art

Box art for Shout! Factory’s Beast Wars DVDs is out, and the crew says it shows slightly more effort than the Rhino release. Brian sold his Rhino sets at a big profit before Shout! Factory announced its G1 sets. [Source: not found]

A Limited Red, Blue and Yellow Sideswipe

Photos show a Corvette Sideswipe on the sidearm mold in a gorgeous red, blue and yellow racing deco, reportedly limited to 1,000 pieces. Nobody knows where it is coming from. Guesses range from a BotCon extra to an e-Hobby release. One host thinks the deco looks like Wolverine. [Source: not found]

BotCon: Transtech Cheetor and Ramjet Box Art

Fun Publications previewed the Transtech Cheetor comic and showed box art for Cheetor and the club’s Ramjet. Brian loves the Ramjet art, while Exvee says it reminds him of Dreamwave. The crew reminisces about past club exclusives, including the 2003 mix-up that gave some fans two left missiles. [Source: not found]

Sentinel Prime Speaks

A clip of a Dark of the Moon Sentinel Prime toy saying “I am Sentinel Prime” delights Brian. He calls it an homage to the G2 voice boxes. [Source: not found]

New Head for the Warpath Mold

A remolded head for the Generations Warpath mold looks like Hardhead. JD Church calls it a fail, since fans just got a Hardhead, and wants a Gutcruncher or Tankor instead. [Source: not found]

Too Many Bumblebees

The deluxe Dark of the Moon Bumblebee’s robot mode is out, and it looks like every other movie Bumblebee. One host notes Bumblebee isn’t selling because shelves are full of him. Brian wants it only for its car mode. Several hosts recommend the Human Alliance Bumblebee, now $15 at Ross. [Source: not found]

A Transformers MMO Is Coming

Jagex, the British company behind RuneScape, is developing a Transformers online game. A separate Chinese-language Transformers MMO is also in the works. The announcement is vague, and the crew guesses it will be free-to-play or browser-based. [Source: not found]

From the Chat: BotCon Prices

John DeLuna raises the chat’s question about why BotCon now costs several hundred dollars. One host explains that after 2005 the convention needed upfront capital and more toys to make the numbers work. The crew agrees the $300 package is fair, but the event-exclusive toys have climbed steeply and cause sticker shock.

Transformers Prime: “Deus Ex Machina”

Spoilers: the episode introduces Knock Out and Breakdown, voiced by Adam Baldwin, with a history with Bulkhead. Starscream gets an Energon harvester and tests it on other Transformers. The Autobots send the kids to steal a relic from a museum, and Optimus Prime suggests leaving Miko with security. JD Church asks why the Autobots didn’t just break in themselves. The crew calls these Autobots bastards.

This Week in History

Exvee notes that Bob Budiansky was born on March 15, 1954, and recalls his great BotCon panel. The Transformers History of Music 1984–1990 album came out in Japan on March 17, 2004. The Headmasters episode “My Friend Sixshot” premiered on March 18, 1988.

Topic: The Transformers Video Games We Want

Brian has always wanted a great G1 fighting game, like Optimus Prime versus Megatron from the 1986 movie. The crew counts the poor attempts, including TakaraTomy’s 2002 game and Hudson’s Dream Mix TV World Fighters. A Hasbro plug-and-play system from 2007 also had a fun fighter, and Beast Wars II had a Game Boy Color game. Exvee notes the SNES game Vortex grew out of a canceled Generation 2 game.

Others suggest a serious RPG, a Dynasty Warriors-style brawler or a sandbox game. Peter wants a Transformers take on Hulk: Ultimate Destruction. One host warns that an MMO would struggle because too many car modes would blend together. Another begs future games not to make players hunt for ammo.

Twitter Theater

Rob found an old commercial for Beast Wars Transmetal kids’ meal toys while looking for Energon promotions. The crew laughs at how Scorponok just stands up while everyone else has elaborate transformations.
