New Images of Masterpiece MP-11 Coronation Starscream
e-Hobby updated its preorder page for Takara Tomy’s Masterpiece MP-11 Coronation Starscream with new images, alone and in his coronation gear. The crew likes the cape and the tweaked colors, though one host jokes it is yet another Starscream remold. They wonder whether it is the first official coronation toy after years of third-party kits. Transformers Collectors Club Reveals Shattered Glass Drift
The Transformers Collectors Club revealed Shattered Glass Drift for spring 2012. His colors and bio make him a dead ringer for Deadpool, and the crew suggests bringing him into IDW continuity to replace the regular Drift. One host now feels compelled to buy one. [Source: TFormers]
War for Cybertron Sequel Reveals a New Dinobot Origin
Game Informer continues its Fall of Cybertron coverage with a new Dinobot origin from High Moon Studios’ Matt Tieger and Dave Cravens. Tieger says Grimlock could have been a tank but he wanted a space T-Rex. The crew loves that answer and warns against overthinking why the Dinobots are dinosaurs. [Source: Game Informer]
Comic News
The new Titan UK movie trade is out, and Aimee’s copy is on the way. She attended IDW’s press conference on its two 2012 ongoing series. More Than Meets the Eye, by James Roberts and Nick Roche, follows Rodimus leaving Cybertron to search for the Knights of Cybertron. Robots in Disguise, by John Barber and Andrew Griffith, stays on Cybertron under Bumblebee. The crew groans at another death of Optimus Prime. IDW’s January solicits add a Last Stand of the Wreckers hardcover.
TFWiki Spotlight: Titan Transformers Comic
Chris McFeely spotlights Titan Magazines’ UK Transformers comic, which has run continuously since the first live-action movie. It began with art from Guido Guidi, Don Figueroa and Andrew Wildman, and later ran Simon Furman’s alternate universe where Megatron won at Mission City. It has rebooted for each movie and now produces original Transformers Prime strips, which the U.S. isn’t getting. The article covers its features, letters pages answered by Starscream, and every issue.
This Week in History
JD notes that “A Decepticon Raider in King Arthur’s Court” aired in 1985. The crew jokes that every universe gets its own King Arthur’s Court.
Topic: Scary Transformers for Halloween
Brian’s pick is the G1 episode “Dark Awakening,” with zombie Optimus Prime and no happy ending for anyone. Others name the Beast Wars episode “Transmutate,” season three’s Quintessons and Decepticon tombs, and Optimus Prime’s head on display in the comics. Predaking’s organic brain in Transformers Zone and the voice of Torkulon also make the list. The crew argues “Dark Awakening” works because fans saw Optimus Prime as a father figure, which Rodimus could never live up to. They also recall Animated’s Halloween episode.
Twitter Theater
Rob Springer closes out Halloween with “Thriller,” a CGI fan video of the Autobots dancing to Michael Jackson, with ghost Seekers rising from the ground. He promises a month of Twitter Theater favorites leading up to Thanksgiving.
