The BotCon 2012 attendee extras include Shattered Glass Junkions in Insecticon colors, and the Radio Free Cybertron crew thinks that set will be the one everyone wants. Recorded in Dallas just after midnight on day one, this short show reunites Brian Kilby, JD Church, John DeLuna and Exvee in person. They run down the three extra sets and the Shattered Glass Darkmount. They also review registration and club store lines, and preview their BotCon coverage plans. It is Exvee’s first BotCon and JD’s first since 2001.
BotCon 2012 Extra Sets
JD bought the Junkion set, three Junkions with all three head styles painted in black and purple Insecticon colors. One host explains that the Junkions were season three’s generic Autobots and the Insecticons the generic Decepticons of season two, so the deco fits Shattered Glass.
The second set pairs Octopunch with Spinister. Spinister uses the alternate head from the Japanese Dark of the Moon Vortex, and the crew calls him a must-have. Octopunch looks better in person than expected. The third set is Kickover with another Shattered Glass Optimus Prime on the G2 Laser Optimus Prime mold from Reveal the Shield. The crew notes BotCon split the most wanted figures into different sets on purpose, just as last year paired Action Master Thundercracker with Shattered Glass Galvatron.
Shattered Glass Darkmount
The extra figure is Darkmount painted as Shattered Glass Straxus. One host already has one but hasn’t opened it. The crew says the green really pops, and another host suggests selling it for an easy $50.
Registration and Club Store Lines
The crew says registration moved fast this year, with the line split by last name, though the letter groups were uneven. The club store added a line just for the three-figure buyers, an idea the crew had in line, but it wasn’t enforced. They spot Brian Savage hunting for cell signal to fix the credit card machines.
Meeting Fans
Exvee says being recognized by RFC listeners at his first BotCon freaked him out a little. The four are together in person for the first time, and they miss both Robs.
Coverage Plans
The crew plans tweets, interviews and video during the show. They’ll record a recap Friday around 6 p.m. Dallas time and try for shows on Saturday and Sunday, or a big show next Thursday. After a 20-plus-hour drive, they cut this one short.
