Transformers Rewind: Transmutate

Rob, Exvee, JD and Aimee discuss the Beast Wars episode Transmutate, where Rampage and Silverbolt compete to befriend a deformed robot from a stasis pod. They call it one of a run of dark episodes after Bad Spark and Code of Hero, made possible by first-run syndication. They praise how complex Rampage is. Silverbolt’s naive belief that anyone can be redeemed comes back in Beast Machines.

The crew finds the episode sad because both sides treat Transmutate as an object instead of a person, and even Rampage sees her as a weapon to control. They note Susan Blu, the show’s voice director, voiced Transmutate.

More Than Meets the Eye #6 on Fanboy Versus

From Fanboy Versus, JD Church, Chris McFeely and Chris Triplett rave about More Than Meets the Eye #6. Rung tries to psychoanalyze Fortress Maximus, who shoots several Autobots in Swerve’s bar and takes Rung and Whirl hostage. Ratchet realizes all the victims are Overlord’s shade of blue.

They love the bar scenes, Trailbreaker’s resentment over his force field and Whirl’s dark backstory. The last-page twist under the ship’s floor gets them excited. Chris McFeely says the book keeps making him like characters he never cared about, and JD calls it a good place for new readers to start.

San Diego Comic-Con Exclusives

Brian reminds listeners that San Diego Comic-Con starts July 14, with exclusives including a Cliffjumper and Terrorcon set on the Prime First Edition mold. One host has preordered the $100 Bruticus set in G2-style colors.
