Brian and Rob report from the grand opening of Transformers: The Ride 3D at Universal Studios Florida, pyrotechnics and all. Masterpiece Bumblebee and Masterpiece Wheeljack are confirmed, and Masterpiece G2 Sideswipe drops to $79.99. The club’s subscription Scourge arrives and impresses, while a third-party Skyfire kit for G1 Jetfire baffles the crew. The BotCon customizing class figure and Sandstorm souvenir also get a look.

News

Club Subscription Scourge Arrives

The Transformers Collectors’ Club’s first subscription figure, Scourge, has shipped. One host who disliked the G2 Optimus Prime Generations mold says Scourge has better plastic and paint. His sword does not stress the hand like other uses of the mold. A third party plans an armor kit with a cape for Scourge, like its Shattered Glass Optimus Prime kit. [Source: not found]

Hasbro Toy Shop’s Generations Wreckers Sell Out Piecemeal

The Generations Wreckers that combine into Ruination went up on Hasbro Toy Shop. Exvee says the full set was never in stock at once, though Diecast saw all five listed. Impactor arrived as Roadbuster sold out. The crew loves the Ruination name and the face modeled on Emirate Xaaron, but not the execution. [Source: not found]

Masterpiece Bumblebee and Masterpiece Wheeljack Confirmed

The next Masterpieces are Bumblebee and Wheeljack. Brian and Diecast had predicted Bumblebee, and another host had called Wheeljack. Repaint ideas include Slicer, and Don is customizing his own G2-style Wheeljack from Prime figures. [Source: not found]

Masterpiece G2 Sideswipe Drops to $79.99

Masterpiece G2 Sideswipe dropped $10 to $79.99, in line with other Masterpieces. It looks like a regular release rather than an e-Hobby exclusive. Brian and Rob agreed in Florida that it is a must-own. The crew pitches a Masterpiece G2 Megatron that could become Megastorm or Bludgeon. [Source: not found]

A Third-Party Skyfire Kit for G1 Jetfire Baffles the Crew

A new kit gives G1 Jetfire a Skyfire head, a new gun and articulated hands. The crew cannot see who would buy it. Owners of pristine Jetfires will not take them apart, and most Jetfires have yellowed anyway. The parts also fit Bandai’s Valkyrie, which uses the same mold. The same maker is doing a movie-style replacement head for MP-10 Convoy, which puzzles them too. [Source: not found]

Transformers Super Wallets Feature Comic Art

New Transformers wallets sold at Hot Topic use comic art, and one host would actually carry one. Some are already sold out at Big Bad Toy Store. [Source: not found]

Masterpiece Soundwave Reviewed Early, Tigertrack Sells Out

A Masterpiece Soundwave review is already on YouTube after the Tokyo Toy Show. One host will pay whatever it costs. Masterpiece Tigertrack, a Tokyo Toy Show exclusive, is sold out. Transformers Go is also out in Japan, and one host who collects Brave toys can’t wait to see it at BotCon. [Source: not found]

BotCon Customizing Class Figure and Sandstorm Souvenir

The BotCon customizing class figure is a Warpath body with a Strika head in Beast Machines Blastcharge colors. A chat viewer says the Warpath head was meant to be used, and the swap was a factory error. Don is picking up the unpainted version in the Primus package. The Sandstorm souvenir, a Dark of the Moon Skyhammer redeco, is already on eBay. [Source: not found]

Transformers: The Ride 3D Grand Opening

Brian and Rob covered the Universal Studios Florida opening as press. They say the ride is worth doing twice, but not on the day you fly in. One host liked that the ride vehicle is Evac, which makes it feel interactive. The opening ceremony set off pyrotechnics just overhead, leaving hot wax on a shirt and powder burns on fingers. A woman in front of them was burned. The red carpet brought Peter Cullen, Frank Welker and Steven Spielberg, who waved and moved on. One host who bought the $25 park-exclusive Evac says it is an all-new mold, worth it if you have ridden the ride.

Comic Review: Classics UK Collection

Rob reviewed the latest UK comics reprint on TFormers, including Galvatron: Dead or Alive. James Roberts liked the review and says the essays aim to be the definitive history of the UK comic.

Q&A with Rob Springer

A listener asks whether an upgrade kit fits both versions of the same mold. Rob says it should, though Takara’s shinier paint may match better than Hasbro’s flatter finish. David Paulk asks when KFC’s Swoop will come out. Rob says third-party dates change often, so ask your seller. He closes with a hygiene plea for convention season.

Comic News with Aimee Morgan

Aimee recommends the UK Classics Volume 4 for its extras. Covenant of Primus is written by Justina Robson and now costs $59.99 instead of $99, due in December. Monstrosity cover art is up on Livio Ramondelli’s DeviantArt. IDW Limited’s Drift collection goes on sale at BotCon first.
