Q&A with Rob Springer
Listener Transfanatics asks why Optimus Prime did not leave Earth in Age of Extinction as soon as humans began hunting Autobots. Rob blames the editing, which he says cut details the script clearly had. He suspects Optimus gained flight with his knight armor, which would explain the timing. He defends Optimus killing Kelsey Grammer’s character as saving a friend in battle. Rob still calls Dark of the Moon his favorite of the four films. He wishes the Dinobots had voices and more screen time.
San Diego Comic-Con 2014 Predictions
Recorded the night before Hasbro’s San Diego Comic-Con panel, the crew makes predictions. One host picks Generations Trypticon, and John picks a Titan Class Overlord. Another expects Generations combiners such as Superion, Menasor, Bruticus and Defensor. The crew wonders why Devastator is missing, since he needs six members. One host predicts store and online exclusives in the style of the eHobby Shattered Glass Soundwave and Blaster set. Don pitches Marvel Legends style Miko, Jack and Raf figures as a joke. The crew also expects footage from the new cartoon.
Kid-Focused Movie Toys
The crew agrees the simpler Age of Extinction toys are not selling. One host says those pegs are still full where he works. Another argues Fast Action Battlers should have been the simplest line below the one-step changers.
This Week in History
BotCon 2000 took place in Fort Wayne, Indiana. John and Don both attended, while one host’s first BotCon came a year later. One host notes that Shokaract was a 2000 exclusive, and that BotCon 2014 brought the name back on the Prime Megatron mold.
