The Platinum Edition Coneheads reach Asian retail for less than the Insecticons, and Radio Free Cybertron weighs in on their odd triple-changer cousins. A Brazilian catalog reveals the mysterious Generations Cyber Series, a line of simplified G1-style figures. TFCon USA is coming to Charlotte, Auto Assembly announces its final year, and Robots in Disguise finally premieres in the US. Brian and Diecast recap their trip to Joelanta.

News

Robots in Disguise Premieres in the US

The show debuted on Cartoon Network at 6 p.m. Eastern on Saturday before moving to early Saturday mornings. The crew recommends it again. One host calls it a very loose continuation of Prime, with Optimus Prime in an Obi-Wan Kenobi role. [Source: not found]

Generations Cyber Series Revealed in a Brazilian Catalog

Autobase Aichi found pictures of simplified, classic-style figures in 7- and 11-inch sizes. They include a Camaro Bumblebee with a G1-style face, a Megatron tank, Optimus Prime and Grimlock. One host notes most reuse engineering from earlier Legends and Cyberverse figures. Autobase Aichi speculates the Voyager Starscream from the Indianapolis museum belongs to this line. One host would at least buy that Starscream. [Source: Autobase Aichi]

Platinum Edition Coneheads Hit Asian Retail

The Seeker Squadron set of Thrust, Ramjet and Dirge was found in Singapore. Its converted price is lower than the Insecticons set. The crew notes the Platinum Insecticons are still only at Kmart in the US. One host may need this set, since only Dirge was reissued in the US Commemorative Series. [Source: not found]

New Photos of Platinum Edition Blitzwing and Astrotrain

Blitzwing actually looks pretty in the new photos. Astrotrain’s safety orange and white still baffles everyone, and Exvee’s head hurts trying to make sense of it. [Source: TFormers]

Collectors’ Club G2 Starscream and Nacelle Surface Early

The last two Classics Seeker mold uses appeared on a Chinese auction site. Brian admits he likes Nacelle and regrets skipping the club’s subscription service, though the others tease him for wanting more Seekers. [Source: not found]

Topless Robot Interviews The Transformers: The Movie Cast and Crew

One host learned that Steve Gerber was an uncredited co-writer with Flint Dille. While the writers worked out how to stage Optimus Prime’s death, a friend of Gerber’s suggested the story of the 300 Spartans. The crew jokes that Frank Miller killed Optimus Prime, then remembers that Miller’s 300 came years later. [Source: Topless Robot]

Auto Assembly 2015 Will Be the Last

The UK convention’s organizer, Simon, is retiring after volunteering with conventions since 1989. The crew is sad for friends like Chris McFeely and Amy who love the show. [Source: not found]

TFCon USA Announced for Charlotte

TFCon USA 2015 runs October 16 to 18 in Concord, outside Charlotte, North Carolina, with help from ShardCon organizers. Brian credits their friend Dave for making the partnership happen. He invites everyone to North Carolina for barbecue and Cheerwine. The crew notes Rob Springer may choose it over BotCon. [Source: not found]

Third-Party News

MakeToys Hellfire and Warbotron’s Gun Set

MakeToys’ Masterpiece-style not-Inferno looks great in robot mode. The crew thinks the fire truck looks like a folded-up robot. They hope for an Artfire redeco. Warbotron will sell a mini not-Shockwave gun for its not-Bruticus separately. The crew had expected it to come free with the not-Onslaught. [Source: not found]

Around TFormers

Rob shares the Japanese opening and ending for Transformers Adventure, Takara’s name for Robots in Disguise. Singapore Toys R Us is giving out G1-style sticker sheets for Combiner Wars Superion and Menasor. Exvee reviewed the TakaraTomy Legends Windblade and Cloud Rodimus. Rob reviewed Angry Birds Transformers #4 and calls it a fun kids’ comic made with care.

Giveaways

The Combiner Wars Blackjack giveaway goes to Twitter user DKRattrap. The next giveaway, on Facebook, is a Combiner Wars Silverbolt that Hasbro gave Diecast and he donated to the contest.

This Week in History

In 2005, the Energon finale episodes “Spark” and “Sun” premiered back to back in the US. The crew agrees the show got worse every week after its first five episodes. One host says Energon kept him from watching Cybertron, which others call pretty good. Brian explains that This Week in History began as JD’s segment, and items must now be at least ten years old.

Joelanta Recap

Brian, Diecast and Rob Springer hosted a panel on how to collect Transformers with artist Dusty Griffin, which will post as RFC Extra. Brian found this year’s show better and more focused on G.I. Joe than last year. Highlights included an F-150 in Tiger Force colors, a stop-motion detective film and a G.I. Joe parachute drop from the 15th floor. Brian says the Joe fandom’s energy reminds him of early BotCons. Diecast enjoyed the dioramas but would put TFCon first.

What We Got This Week

Brian finally found an Armada Galvatron, which he had hunted for years, at Retro Reboot in Pineville, North Carolina. He is less happy with Leader Class Armada Megatron, the only one in stock, and canceled his preorder.

Diecast found a complete Revenge of the Fallen-era figure at Retro Reboot, whose owner, Jake, helped him put it together. He also posted video reviews of Robots in Disguise Warrior Class Optimus Prime, Drift and Leader Class Armada Megatron, which he really likes.
