Combiner Wars Animated Series Coming to Machinima
Hasbro announced a Combiner Wars animated series for Machinima, aimed at teens and adults. The crew worries about tone and hopes it avoids the misfires of past online series. One host just wants animated Transformers he cares about again. [Source: TFW2005]
Victorion is a box set in one unified color scheme, due around the second or third quarter of 2016. It will not be exclusive. Her members include Pyra Magna, Jumpstream, Rust Dust, Skyburst and Stormclash. New feet add ankle tilt, every member gets a new head, and the Alpha Bravo molds get new forearms. A combined sword assembles from everyone’s weapons. Some fans expected new molds, while one host just wishes the two cars matched like the helicopters. [Source: TFW2005]
Scattershot Revealed as a Silverbolt Retool
Photos show Scattershot, a Silverbolt retool with new wings, a cannon nose and a new head. The robot mode looks good, but the combined torso is basically orange Silverbolt. No Technobots were announced to go with him. [Source: TFW2005]
G2 Superion arrives as a box set with a G2 Powerglide. Hasbro’s designers bought an original G2 Superion to match its colors, and the crew loves the checkerboard wings. Some wish Powerglide had a chrome or silver finish. [Source: TFW2005]
G2 Menasor will be a box set too, and Hasbro expects these sets to sell mostly online. For most fans, it is the first chance to own the colors without paying eBay prices. One host suggests the price may land near $75 to $100. [Source: Seibertron]
No Titan Wars at SDCC
Titan Wars did not appear at SDCC. The crew now expects a tease at New York Comic Con and product at Toy Fair, which suggests the BotCon banner was a mistake.
New Transformers: Devastation Trailer
A new Devastation trailer shows Sideswipe, Wheeljack, Starscream, Soundwave and Blitzwing. Its director also directed Metal Gear Rising. Brian grows less excited with each look, while others get more pumped. The crew thinks the veteran G1 voices sound their age. [Source: TFormers]
Robots in Disguise Gets Only Legion Class at SDCC
New Robots in Disguise product was limited to Legion class figures, including Windblade, Thunderhoof and Ultra Magnus. Rob warns that a brand aimed mainly at adult collectors would not be healthy. A second season was mentioned, though it is not confirmed. [Source: TFW2005]
Masterpiece Bluestreak, Transformers Adventure and More
Masterpiece Bluestreak is now at Toys R Us. A branded image hints at Masterpiece Hound as MP-28. Transformers Adventure confirms Black Shadow and Rumble and Frenzy, as Rob predicted last week. Battle Grimlock turns out to be a red remold of Fall of Cybertron Grimlock. Legends Rodimus and Skywarp are hitting Toys R Us. [Source: TFW2005]
Badcube is making another Masterpiece-style Sunstreaker. Toy World showed the next Dinobot for its combiner team, though the crew is tired of keeping track of them. [Source: TFW2005]
On TFormers This Week
Rob reviewed the Kre-O Class of 85 set, Combiner Hunters Windblade and Combiner Wars Defensor. Exvee is reviewing SDCC Devastator figure by figure, plus an unboxing video.
What We Got This Week
Exvee has the SDCC Devastator and is reviewing it. With a couple of exceptions, the chrome works better in hand than he expected. The chrome does not match the purple plastic, which shows most on Hook.
Diecast got Fans Toys Tesla, its Perceptor homage, and Fans Toys Sever, its Snarl homage, still in the box. He also got MakeToys Utopia to display with the company’s Scorponok homage.
Rob got the SDCC Kre-O Class of 85 set and the Combiner Hunters set. Chromia is his favorite of the three Hunters, and Windblade his least favorite.
