Photos from Asia show the Combiner Wars G2 Menasor and G2 Superion box sets fighting, and the crew loves this Superion. TakaraTomy’s MP-21R Red Bumblebee is priced at 5,500 yen, while a red camo BAPE Optimus Prime gets a shrug. Hot Toys has a new G1 Optimus Prime, and Hisashi Yuki polls fans on Unite Warriors Blast Off. BotCon 2016’s Sea Clamp completes a box set the crew still cannot love. MakeToys’ Iron Will brings a big, beautiful Masterpiece-style Hardhead.
This Week in History
In 1997, the Beast Wars season two episode “Coming of the Fuzors, Part 1” premiered in the US. The crew loves the two-parter for Silverbolt and Quickstrike. In 1985, “Child’s Play” premiered, which Brian calls his least favorite G1 episode. Don likes how it shows Transformers as toy-sized next to the wider universe.
News from Cybertron
Brian renames the official news segment “News from Cybertron” and third-party news “News from Gobotron.”
MP-21R Red Bumblebee Pricing and Details
MP-21R Red Bumblebee is 5,500 yen, about $45. The TakaraTomy Mall version is limited, but a wider Asian release usually supplies import stores. Brian wants it even though he does not like the Bumblebee mold. Others would rather see a proper Cliffjumper or Hubcap. [Source: not found]
New Red BAPE Optimus Prime
A Bathing Ape’s new MP-10 Optimus Prime is a different red camo. One host asks who cares, preferring the Evangelion Prime for an MP-10 double-dip. One host jokes it looks like a Hate Plague Optimus. Another says MP-10 repaints make him like MP-1 more. [Source: not found]
Hot Toys G1 Optimus Prime
Hot Toys’ new G1-style Optimus Prime seems to be an extra-accessory version of an earlier release. This one carries parts torn off Megatron instead of Starscream. Brian admits Hot Toys is outside his price range and interest. The crew jokes about a version wearing Jetfire parts. [Source: not found]
Hisashi Yuki Polls Fans on Unite Warriors Blast Off
TakaraTomy designer Hisashi Yuki ran a Twitter poll on Blast Off’s alt mode. Space shuttle won 82 percent to 18 percent. Don will double-dip on Bruticus if Blast Off is a shuttle. Another host wants Hasbro’s Onslaught for its silver chest, so he will mix and match. [Source: not found]
Combiner Wars G2 Menasor and G2 Superion Box Sets Surface
Photos from Asia show the G2 Menasor and G2 Superion box sets fighting. One host calls this Superion the best ever, while Menasor still is not his favorite. Rob notes Menasor should have the fixed hips. The sets are not supposed to be exclusives, and rumors point to early 2016. [Source: not found]
BotCon 2016 Box Set Completed With Sea Clamp
The last member of the Collectors’ Club’s Beast Wars combiner set is Predacon General Sea Clamp. The crew calls the head mock-up a rough digibash. One host wants turnarounds for every new head. The Tripredacus Council concept still does not sell them. More thoughts are on this week’s RFC Mini-cast. [Source: not found]
News from Gobotron
MakeToys Remaster Iron Will, an Unofficial Hardhead
MakeToys’ Iron Will is a Masterpiece-style Hardhead. Brian says it is way too big, but beautiful. Don prefers to wait for Fansproject’s Function series Hardhead, and he is enjoying Toy World’s Hardbone again. Brian now plans to buy the MakeToys Remaster Targetmaster Hound. [Source: not found]
Unique Toys Run Man, an Unofficial Blur
Unique Toys’ Masterpiece-scale Blur is up for preorder. Brian says he could not hate it more. The crew finds the robot mode too boxy, like a linebacker instead of a speedster. [Source: not found]
Mastermind Creations Spartan, an Unofficial Impactor
The crew says Mastermind Creations’ Spartan looks awesome. He is Voyager-sized, bulkier and a little taller than Generations Springer. Don loves the look but has no attachment to Impactor. The crew reminds him Impactor harpooned Overlord in the eye. [Source: TFW2005]
This Week on the Network
Diecast’s new review of Mastermind Creations’ Sphinx is on YouTube. RFC Mini-cast 34 covers the BotCon Beast Wars combiner set. On Being Awesome 32, Rob Springer recalls dressing as G1 Snarl for Halloween. On TFormers, Rob reviews Combiner Wars Ironhide, and Exvee reviews More Than Meets the Eye 46. TFormers also reports the Tripredacus Council has no set colors; the lights were red.
What We Got This Week
Diecast got a few of the new Legends “ladies” but has not opened them yet. He did open Mastermind Creations’ Sphinx, the unofficial Mirage. The silicone tires are soft and slide on the rims. One shoulder on its slider pin is loose. It has a nice heft and a bonus parachute with real metal cables. He will sell his DX9 Invisible at New Jersey Collectors Con.
Chris has the Optimus Prime-colored Alligaticon that Matt picked up for him. He loves it so much he could almost stop buying toys.
