499: A Kup of Hope, but only half a Kup of Paint

Listen · RFC · Dec 22, 2016

Ben Yee reviews Titans Return Kup in the final Transformers Collectors’ Club magazine, and the crew loves the vehicle mode but wants more paint. Exvee works out the full Titans Return Deluxe wave 4 lineup, including Croc and Quake recolors. New photos of Voyager Broadside, Super Ginrai and God Bomber arrive, and MP Dirge opens for preorder. Fortress Maximus hits Ross for $55, and a Bathing Ape camo Masterpiece Optimus Prime turns up.

One Episode From 500

Next week is RFC 500 and the year-end episode. The crew jokes about relaunching at number one, Marvel-style.

This Week in History

In 1990, the Masterforce episode “Battle in Space” premiered in Malaysia. Brian plans to post the Transformers Rewind episode about it, featuring JD and Chris McFeely, to the RFC feed.

News

Titans Return Kup Reviewed in the Final Collectors’ Club Magazine

Ben Yee, who reviewed toys in the magazine’s first issue, closes it out with Kup. The crew loves the vehicle mode but expects Takara’s version to look better, especially the unpainted Titan Master. One host wishes the green band sat lower on the windshield. Fans expect a Crosshairs retool. [Source: not found]

Titans Return Deluxe Wave 4: The Full Assortment

Exvee pieced together the case from teases and store data: Perceptor, Kup and Topspin, plus Croc and Quake recolors of Skullcruncher and Hardhead. A five-figure case likely pushes online set prices past $100. [Source: not found]

Masterpiece Dirge Photos and Preorders

Dirge ships in May, and Matt is getting it. The cockpit still lacks a lock point, and one host is done with Masterpiece Seekers. [Source: not found]

Voyager Broadside at the Bahamut Gamer Expo in Taiwan

The jet mode looks odd, but the robot and carrier modes are nice. Matt bought DX9’s Hulky just to stage Broadside landing on it. [Source: not found]

Bathing Ape Masterpiece Optimus Prime

The camo MP-10 will be sold by lottery at Bathing Ape stores in Japan. The crew finds it silly. [Source: not found]

More Than Meets the Eye Voted Best Science Fiction Comic of 2016

ComicsAlliance gave the honor to the series. One host is glad Alex Milne gets recognition while still the book’s main artist. [Source: not found]

The crew expects about $150 for the small Hybrid Style Convoy reissue and predicts clearance bins. [Source: not found]

Legends Super Ginrai and God Bomber Photos From the Generations Book

Super Ginrai is due at the end of the month, and God Bomber in April or May. One host’s preorders vanished in a site glitch, so he reordered elsewhere. [Source: not found]

Fortress Maximus Hits Ross for $55

Multiple sightings confirm the price, along with G2 Bruticus for $35 and Victorion sightings. The crew advises checking back as stores restock for Christmas. [Source: not found]

The Last Knight Premier Edition Optimus Prime in Package

It is a Voyager, and its Premier Edition callout looks a lot like Star Trek lettering. The crew expects it around late January or early February. [Source: not found]

What’s on TFormers

Rob shares the first page of the e-Hobby Magna Convoy webcomic. Package art is up for this month’s Legends: Super Ginrai, Soundwave, Ravage, Laserbeak and Brainstorm. Exvee posted a gallery of nearly 400 photos of Leader Sixshot and Revolver.

Listener Question

Catmax Gaming asks how complete a figure must be for the crew’s collections. One host buys only sealed new toys, except G1, which he wants as complete as possible. Another takes loose toys if they are physically whole, missiles optional. Don mostly upgrades older figures. Matt’s advice: collect the way that makes you happy.

What We Got This Week

Rob got the Titans Return Legends wave after 19 days in transit. He rates Kickback the best and calls Bumblebee okay.

Matt also got the Legends wave and will hear no criticism of Gnaw. He likes Kickback but not Bumblebee’s mismatched paint.

Diecast got a leader-size knockoff Hot Spot and most of an oversized knockoff Protectobot set, missing one figure. He also got a pair of transforming buses and a throne add-on for an upscaled knockoff Grimlock.
