Listen · RFC 592

Takara Tomy’s Legends LG-EX Big Powered gets its first high-resolution look, and the crew marvels at the retooling on Dai Atlas, Sonic Bomber and Roadfire. Brian is back after a sick week and catches up on Siege, from Brunt to Flywheels. A mystery Autobot turns up on a South African retailer’s website, and new Takara Tomy photos show Siege Shockwave’s submarine mode. Hasbro also hid a tiny Kremzeek in its New York Comic Con diorama.

Brian Catches Up on Siege

Back after a week out sick, Brian caught up on last week’s show and is warming to Siege. Flywheels makes him happy, and Brunt amazes him. A Twitter user pointed out that Brunt is the tank that came with Trypticon. Brian wonders whether Hasbro means it as a new character or a Slammer homage.

What We Got This Week

Brian got Studio Series Shadow Raider and Bumblebee from Amazon, though he has not opened them yet. The size gap between the two deluxes really stings.

Don found the Walmart-exclusive Legends Hot Rod from The Last Knight at Ross. He got Studio Series Voyager Ironhide from Amazon with gift card money. A Target sale got him Cyberverse Optimus Prime for about $15. He likes the robot mode, though the Matrix Mega Shot gimmick is finicky. He also replaced his broken SDCC Primal Prime for about $80. His girlfriend surprised him with the G1 reissue Devastator gift set as an early Christmas gift. It will stay boxed next to his Starscream.

Rob had nothing this week.

John had nothing to report this week.

Jason found the Transformers Trading Card Game at Target, though there were no booster packs.

This Week in History

In 2000, Kid Rhino released a Blockbuster-exclusive VHS tape with More Than Meets the Eye parts 1 to 3, Aerial Assault and Cosmic Rust. One host recalls taping episodes on audio cassette as a kid. The crew notes Aerial Assault aired before the Combaticons were introduced. The crew remembers it as a time before complete DVD sets, when Car Robots was just starting in Japan.

LG-EX Big Powered First Looks At Legends Dai Atlas, Sonic Bomber, And Roadfire

High-resolution photos now show every mode in full color. The crew is stunned by the retooling, and Sonic Bomber looks like a brand-new toy. Don owns the originals and says Roadfire is more desirable for scarcity than quality. He thinks Takara nailed the deco and hopes Dai Atlas gets a sword. Chris ties Zone’s motorized base toys to the Brave series that followed. One host preordered from Big Bad Toy Store right away, and another is pleased his 15,000 yen estimate was dead on. Diecast is passing unless he finds it cheaper on Taobao. The set is due in spring. [Source: TFormers]

Who’s That Autobot? New Siege Artwork Of Unknown Character Turns Up On South African Retailer Website

The unknown Autobot appears on two Siege banners. Rob made a Pokemon silhouette joke out of it. Early guesses include Roller and Huffer, and Brian thinks it looks like a Targetmaster. Others wonder about a Micromaster or Smashdown, though the art style does not match the rest of Siege. [Source: TFormers]

Transformers Siege Takara Tomy Wave 2 High-Res Stock Photos

Shockwave’s submarine mode is real, though more in spirit than function. The crew calls it the best Generations Shockwave yet. Brian loves both space battleship modes but not how the armor sits in robot mode. Chris says the battleship mode is what saves it from being a $50 Voyager. Brian is not crazy about Megatron’s robot mode, and Chris notes the back-mounted treads echo his IDW design. The crew likes the tank mode and weapon combinations. The crew agrees Flywheels looks beautiful. Diecast has a funny Flywheels story he cannot share until the December 1 embargo lifts. One host realizes Siege could hit shelves in about six weeks. Kremzeek! NYCC 2018 Generations Siege Display Sports Tiny Easter Egg

Unicron.com spotted a tiny Kremzeek in Hasbro’s diorama. The crew suspects it is an existing mold from a knockoff Megatron set and may not ship with anything. Kremzeek is from season two, so one host jokes it does not belong on 1984 Cybertron. [Source: TFormers]

Flame Toys Kuro Kara Kuri Shattered Glass Drift Official Images

One host does not care for Shattered Glass or Drift, so the figure does nothing for him. Another calls it just a Gundam. One host notes Eric liked the deco at New York Comic Con. [Source: TFormers]

What’s on TFormers

Rob points to an excerpt from an interview with Bumblebee writer Christina Hodson, who seems to understand the character. The crew finds the news encouraging. One host jokes the movie will finally show whether fans were right to blame Michael Bay. [Source: TFormers]

RFC Starts Its 20th Year

Radio Free Cybertron starts its 20th year in five days. Diecast says it still amazes him that people know the show. He credits Hasbro’s John Warden and Ben Montano for their excitement, which sold him on Siege.
