Listen · RFC 596

BotBots are finally in hand, and Brian has fallen hard for the line, from King Toots to Unicone. Diecast can at last share his hands-on time with Siege from New York Comic Con: denser deluxes, no ball joints and a $20 price tag. The crew previews IDW’s Go-Bots #1 and Star Trek vs. Transformers #2. Brian also finds a $3.73 six-pack of knockoff Legends figures at a closing Kmart.

What We Got This Week

Diecast got the Siege wave 1 deluxes and reviewed Sideswipe. He wants to modify Optimus Prime’s cab once he gets the Voyagers. He also got the second Retro Pop Highway cassette set and X-Transbots’ Skids. Skids’ shoulder pieces pop off and are already stress-marked, but he thinks it looks good. His favorite is Magic Square’s Legends-scale Ultra Magnus, the best Ultra Magnus he has owned. He also got a gold Starscream, X-Transbots’ Flipout and upscaled Ratbat and Chromedome figures, and he plans to buy the FansToys Stunticons.

Don‘s pickups this week were not Transformers.

Brian found a Just Kidz six-pack of knockoff, upscaled Legends figures at a closing Kmart for $3.73. It includes Cybertron Thundercracker in orange and blue, Universe Cosmos in yellow and blue, Universe Ironhide and a red and green Ultra Magnus. They feel like a cereal-box premium, but a good one. He bought every pack and is giving extras to friends of the show.

BotBots Are Out

Brian calls BotBots the greatest thing ever to hit Transformers. Because the five-packs share a name, he cannot tell which set he will get. His daughters want Unicone, the ice cream cone that becomes a unicorn, and their favorite is King Toots, the toilet paper roll. Other hosts got the donut, and one fed it to his Grimlock. The crew likes Burger-Tron and the gleeful Poo Sham, though the soda can creeps one host out. Brian orders more on air. Don predicts circles of fans trading BotBots in the TFCon lobby, which is exactly what Hasbro has always wanted.

Transformers Trading Card Game

Hasbro sent Brian a Metroplex deck, though he does not play. The crew notes TFCon had a room dedicated to the game that was always full. Don would rather see the card art collected in a coffee table book.

Preview: Go-Bots #1 Comic Book by Tom Scioli

Brian loves the four-page preview, where Leader-1 shows up and kills people. He calls it gloriously weird in the style of Transformers vs. G.I. Joe. [Source: TFormers]

Bumblebee International Movie Posters Released

Brian guesses John Cena’s character will turn good by the end of the film, since Sector 7 usually does. The crew jokes that John Cena is not visible on the poster. [Source: TFormers]

Siege Wave 1 Unboxing Preview: Hands-On With Transformers War for Cybertron Figures

Diecast was among the first to open the Battle Masters, deluxes and Voyagers at New York Comic Con. The figures are heavier than expected, and the deluxes have no ball joints. They have 3mm ports for blast effects plus 5mm ports. Sideswipe has real ankle tilts, while Hound’s are locked by detents. Every deluxe has a waist swivel. The deluxes are a bit smaller but denser, and they now cost $20. Diecast says the weathering looks subtler in person, though one host thinks Megatron’s looks bad in photos. Brian has not preordered anything and will wait for stores. [Source: TFormers]

Review: Siege Deluxe Sideswipe

Diecast’s review is up at TFormers and RFC Reviews. On Sideswipe, the silver weathering on black plastic reads like a wash, and he does not mind it. [Source: TFormers]

Operation Purge of the Primes

Brian asks listeners to buy up the Power of the Primes figures on their shelves and give them to a toy drive like Toys for Tots. Tweet your donations with the hashtags #PurgeOfThePrimes and #SeaconsBeforeUnicron.

Star Trek vs. Transformers #2 Comic Preview: The Enterprise Is Burning

What’s on TFormers

Jason covers for Rob. TFormers has covers and summaries for Star Trek vs. Transformers #3 and #4 and a push to vote DJ Bumblebee action figure of the year. It also has a spoiler piece on Lost Light #25. Several hosts call More Than Meets the Eye some of the best Transformers fiction ever. One host was underwhelmed by Unicron #6, which came out the same day.
