Siege Wave 2 Leader Class Optimus Prime: First Image of Galaxy Convoy Cybertron Homage
Blurry package images were quickly followed by a clear in-hand photo. A leaked image shows the small robot mode, which matches the Optimus Prime on the new IDW cover. The only weathering appears to be on the feet. Rob loves that this is literally G1 Optimus Prime cosplaying Galaxy Convoy. Diecast is not moved by it. One host notes the toy has two complete sets of fake windshields. [Source: TFormers]
Review: Siege Ironhide Wave 2 Deluxe
Ironhide stands a full head taller than the standard Deluxe, even without Sixgun attached. His weathering also seems limited to the feet. Jason plans to buy him. The crew hopes for a Snowcat remold now that Hasbro is nodding to Cybertron. A white Ratchet redeco is coming as a Walgreens exclusive. [Source: TFormers]
Review: Greenlight and Dazlestrike Siege Deluxe and Battle Master Set
Greenlight’s torso has surface details different from both Chromia and the Moonracer remold. Her feet are thicker to fit the combiner plug. The only preorder so far is on Amazon Canada. The crew guesses the final team member will match Greenlight for symmetry. [Source: TFormers]
Toyworld Joins the Beast Wars with TW-BS01 Unofficial Transmetal Megatron
Toyworld’s Transmetal Megatron is Legends scale at four and a half inches tall. One host will likely buy it at $25 to $30. Another loves that it keeps the roller skates. With Masterpieces possibly slowing down, one host wants third parties to give Transmetal Megatron the Springer treatment. [Source: TFormers]
Listener Question: When Did Transformers Peak?
A listener on Twitter asked when Transformers peaked after hearing the crew predict a decline. One host points to 2008 through 2010, when the first movie toys sold out and Hasbro tripled its output. That stretch brought Animated, Universe, Classics and Revenge of the Fallen. He says Revenge of the Fallen overproduction and the economic downturn started the slide. Others recall the 2004 Walmart exclusive era and Cybertron’s huge shelf presence. The crew adds that toys cost about half as much then, and toy aisles are shrinking across all brands. Jason notes how often he finds empty pegs. One host says Walmart is down to about two feet of Transformers shelf space.
On TFormers: Siege Ultra Magnus Review and Shockwave Gallery
Jack reviews Siege Leader Ultra Magnus, and Rob posts an 89-photo gallery of Siege Shockwave. Rob had to correct the purple in post-production because it wants to photograph as blue. [Source: TFormers]
What We Got This Week
Jason got NewAge’s tiny Bumblebee, about half the size of a Legends figure, and likes its fun transformation. He also got Iron Factory’s Jazz.
Chris had nothing in Transformers this week.
Matt found the G1 reissue Bumblebee. His Walmart finally stocked the Siege Leaders, so he got Shockwave. He calls it exactly the Shockwave he wanted, though the ship’s tower is too small to use as a gun handle.
Rob got Siege Shockwave for TFormers and likes his two space battleship modes. He found the Top Shot and Flak Micromasters, and he likes Flak much more than Top Shot. He also got Battle Masters Firedrive and Blowpipe, which are fine if you lack the Takara Targetmasters. He found Prime Master Bludgeon on Target clearance for $3.
Don finally received his Magic Square Trailbreaker after a month of shipping delays.
Diecast got the Magic Square Optimus Prime and finds it a slight letdown. It is solid but light, the hip skirts get in the way, and the Matrix looks bad. He loves Fans Toys Hoodlum and says it is what Masterpieces should be. He also got DX9’s Omega Supreme, Gabriel, after buying its emblem by mistake. Make Toys’ black Jetfire arrived, along with Mastermind Creations’ Skylynx, his smarty-pants space chicken.
