It’s not your leg, Diecast

Movie Masterpiece MPM-10 Starscream is revealed as a Target exclusive near $160. The crew debates the price and the knockoff market. Plus the first Massey attack, Earthrise deluxes and Netflix Scrapface.

Movie Masterpiece MPM-10 Starscream is revealed, with articulated fingers and a Target exclusive price near $160 in the US. The crew weighs that price against cheaper knockoffs and one host calls MP-44 Optimus Prime not worth it. A listener asks when the first Massey attack happened, and Brian traces it to episode 437. Matt reviews Earthrise Cliffjumper, Wheeljack, Hoist and Grapple, and Brian ranks the Netflix War for Cybertron deluxes.

Movie Masterpiece MPM-10 Starscream Revealed

Chris covered the reveal on RFC News Desk 090. The figure has articulated fingers and a mouth. A Taobao listing put it near $250, but Hasbro’s information lists it as a US Target exclusive for about $160. The Japanese price of 20,000 yen lines up with the Hasbro number. Brian is not a fan of the Starscream design, but he finds the toy interesting. One host praises the product photos for hiding the big triangle silhouette. Another notes the Hasbro China images were framed for phone screens. The crew calls $160 steep for a movie figure. One host points out that a knockoff can sometimes fix an official toy’s flaws, as with Movie Masterpiece Ironhide. The talk turns to Masterpiece prices, and one host calls MP-44 Optimus Prime not worth it. [Source: RFC News Desk]

Listener Question: When Was the First Massey Attack?

Listener Chris asks when Don’s cat Massey first attacked him on camera. Brian finds references in his email going back to 2013, including one from JD. Don first joined during BotCon 2012 from John DeLuna’s living room. He took in Massey around early 2013. The earliest attack Brian can find on video is episode 437, about 40 minutes in, at tfradio.net/437. The crew notes the attack on the Massey Attack shirt is a later one.

What We Got This Week

Don

Don ordered from Hasbro Pulse and got off-road Bumblebee and jet-mode Shatter. More is on the way, since he is buying online for safety.

Matt

Matt found Earthrise at his Walmart. He likes Cliffjumper a lot, though the car piece that comes off the back surprised him. He says it justifies the deluxe price. Wheeljack’s off-white plastic and plain look leave him cold. Hoist’s arms feel scary to fold at the shoulders. Grapple is super nice, though Hoist makes him look small. Matt also got Seacons Nautilator and Seawing. Seawing is skinny on the Cutthroat mold, and Nautilator is surprisingly chunky. He loves the colors and head sculpts and is waiting on the last two from TFSource.

Chris

Someone sent Chris Transformers: The Manga from his wishlist. He enjoys the precise, stylized art and the art book section in the back. He knows the writing was made for young kids, but it works for him.

Diecast

Diecast bought three RFC shirts and loves the quality. He also got two more Seacons and sorted out Hasbro Pulse’s confusing TTGS numbering with Chris’s help. He picked up a one-to-one knockoff of Movie Masterpiece Megatron with darker paint, in a huge shipping box. His big pickup is Fans Toys Sheridan. It is much slimmer than Badcube’s Wardog and looks great in both modes. A short pin leaves one leg loose, so he won’t transform it again.

Rob

Rob’s pickups this week were not Transformers.

Brian

Brian won a carded View-Master reel set. He also got Seawing and Nautilator. He ranked his Netflix War for Cybertron deluxes. Chromia and Hound barely differ from earlier releases, and Sideswipe looks a little better. Mirage looks sharp, but Scrapface is his favorite, and he wants two more for a camera. He added three more McDonald’s St. Louis test toys: green and black Cliffjumper, red and black Bumblebee and yellow and red Gears. He also got a boxed Transmetal 2 Megatron. His oddest find is a set of Brazilian Transformers Sprite bottle caps, with a tracking card that may be a reproduction.
