May 2021 Fan First Friday Reveals
The big surprise was a 4K Ultra HD edition of Transformers: The Movie. Per cover artist Matt Ferguson, it uses a completely new scan with better color. One host preordered it on day one and can tell 4K from 1080p at his desk. The 4K disc carries the matted widescreen version, and the Blu-ray carries full screen. One host regrets the apparent lack of a digital copy. [Source: TFRadio]
Studio Series Wreck-Gar appeared in hand, riding himself, and the crew calls it a faithful take on the G1 toy. Diecast ordered five across several retailers as insurance. Gnaw got its first look, and Brian preordered 23 to start an army. Others preordered three or four, and one host wants Bot from the same mold. Shattered Glass Starscream reuses the Siege mold. Several hosts preordered it anyway, though one wishes it used the Earthrise mold. [Source: TFRadio]
Kingdom Sightings in the US and Australia
Rhinox has reportedly turned up at Targets in the US, though no one on the call has found one yet. Kingdom Galvatron, Kingdom T-Rex and Commander Class Rodimus Prime were spotted in Australia. T-Rex is a straight repaint of the Megatron mold. John points out it uses the wrong head, missing the scowling sculpt shown on the box render. One host is thrilled to see Rodimus and Galvatron at retail together, which he thinks has not happened since 1986.
Toyhax released a label set that turns the Netflix Nemesis Prime trailer into a G2 Optimus Prime trailer. Brian’s set has already shipped. He bought the TakaraTomy Nemesis Prime for display and will use his Netflix trailer for the G2 build. The Netflix Wave 2 Optimus Prime is already a near-perfect G2 Optimus. One host finds the trailer too small for the Optimus mold and will use his for Huffer molds instead. [Source: Toyhax]
What We Got This Week
Don had only a non-Transformers pickup this week.
Rob got a downscaled knockoff of Combiner Wars Devastator in G2 yellow for about $50 shipped. It is his first version of the Combiner Wars molds, and it stands just above a typical five-part combiner. A couple of Scavenger’s tabs broke during transformation, but Devastator still holds together well. A knockoff Micromaster-style truck came free in the box.
Brian found a Zoteki Grimlock statue at Walgreens for about $5. He also bought a second copy of Stan Bush’s The Touch radio promo single, since his first has a stained label. He also found United Artfire mint in a sealed box and opened it, which completes his collection of that mold. From Mandarake he got a sealed carded Rescue Force Jallguar from the Liokaiser team. His last pickup is a mint, complete, boxed G1 Skyquake, one of his all-time favorites.
