Sam Smith on Designing Sideways

Hasbro designer Sam Smith explained on Instagram that the team could not get the vehicle license for Sideways, so they made a car up. Chris notes Sideways is barely seen in robot mode in the film, so the design leaned on ILM model assets. [Source: Instagram]

Mark Maher Shows the Scale of Legacy Menasor

Mark Maher built a partial Legacy Menasor from Commander Class Motormaster, Dragstrip and two Wildriders. It stands about as tall as Skyfire, roughly Combiner Wars size. The crew likes it, though one host wishes the cars sat on the front of the legs. Insiders say the Motormaster tooling includes a Thunderclash head. Don estimates the full combiner at around $180. Legacy Walmart Exclusive Black Convoy Leaked

Walmart’s Legacy Black Convoy, on the Laser Optimus Prime mold, leaked, and nobody is feeling it. The crew says the colors are almost completely wrong, and Chris notes the clear chest is painted black by choice. Brian will stick with his original Scourge. One host would buy the mold again only as Toxitron or Laser Ultra Magnus. [Source: Autobase Aichi]

G-Shock x Transformers Watches

Casio’s G-Shock and Transformers collaboration brings Optimus Prime, Megatron and Bumblebee watches in China. Each comes in a Cybertron-shaped display case that cracks open, with etched case backs. Brian loves them, and the Megatron watch strikes the crew as understated enough to wear. Several hosts note smartwatches make a second watch a hard sell. [Source: Autobase Aichi]

Don Figueroa’s Concept Art for the Unproduced Titanium Arcee

Don Figueroa shared concept art for a Titanium Arcee that never made it to market. Don says he saw the prototype in a Hasbro display case during a BotCon tour. He adds that the prototype is less impressive than the drawing. [Source: Twitter]

Tubbz Transformers Rubber Ducks

What We Got This Week

Don got Core Class Exosuit Spike.

Matt also got Exosuit Spike from Amazon, noting the hole in the back of the head. He wants more exosuit humans, like Verity, Carly or Jessica Morgan.

Rob got Exosuit Spike as well and says the second knee joint is too stiff.

Diecast calls the DNA Design upgrade kit for Studio Series 86 Grimlock skippable, with panels that do not close and a weak substitute Wheelie. The DNA kit for Titan Class Ark is great, adding hands and shuttle side covers. At Ollie’s, he got $12.99 Legacy deluxes, including Airwave and Smokescreen.

Chris said he had nothing this week.

Brian found a 1985 Battle in the Desert Valley poster calendar, one marked up and one sealed, plus a 2003 Dreamwave Armada calendar. At a local toy convention he got a complete Fall of Cybertron Bruticus for $20 and a complete G1 Skullcruncher for $60.
