News from Cybertron

Ultra Magnus, Optimus Prime’s running mate, argues that voters should reject the Decepticons because their packaging says they are evil. Turin continues his 73-part Optimus Prime interview, in which Prime answers every question with “I am Optimus Prime.”

ATT Buzz

John DeLuna reports an ugly fight between AllSpark and BigBot.com over who gets to host Spooky’s photos. AllSpark has accused BigBot.com of questionable tactics on ATT, and BigBot.com has not responded. John suggests Spooky find a third option. The group also debated Transformers: The Movie, especially Galvatron’s strength. John doubts movie Galvatron could beat Optimus Prime, since he struggled against Hot Rod. He jokes that Galvatron would make a fine president, with Cyclonus as VP.

Galvatron for President

A mock campaign ad promotes Galvatron for president in 2000: “First the U.S., then the world.”

Car Robots Feedback

Brian responds to J. Dale, who said his Car Robots review was too cynical. Brian still does not want the cartoon in America, calling it rushed, though he likes toys such as Gigatron and Super Fire Convoy. Goldimus Prime is taking over the episode reviews. Listeners can vote in the RFC poll or post on the message board.

New on the RFC Website

The site has an article by Carl Vollmer, Marvel Universe Transformed’s editor-in-chief, on starting a fan fiction group. It also has a review of the Transmetals game by AlexJ33106.

Toy Review: G1 Scorponok

Turin reviews G1 Scorponok, the largest US Transformer after Fortress Maximus. The 24-inch scorpion mode is a big brick with strong ratcheting claws and a lame rolling leg gimmick. The defense base is huge and full of accessories, but other Transformers cannot fit on it and it is barely armed. The 13-inch robot mode is the most impressive, though Lord Zarak’s tiny head drops it from awesome to merely nice. Fasttrack rolls well. Turin rates Scorponok “nice” and recommends it for G1 fans with money to burn. He also picked up the Fox Kids repaint of Transmetal Airazor.

Five-Minute Toy Review Challenge

Brian tries to review as many G1 toys as he can in five minutes. Galvatron gets a 6, Megatron a 7, Sixshot an 8 and Landfill a 4. Bumblebee gets a 6, Mirage an 8, Beachcomber a 7 and Powermaster Getaway a 5. Time runs out during Menasor, leaving Skywarp, Trax, Perceptor and Seaspray unreviewed. Brian got through nine toys.

Toy Review: Beast Machines Geckobot

Goldimus Prime reviews Geckobot, which resembles a prehistoric frilled lizard. The dark green beast mode has translucent purple wings and a scissoring frill gimmick. The robot mode has very long, ugly arms with wings hanging off them, so he prefers to leave Geckobot largely untransformed. He notes he kept calling it Quickstrike during the review. Geckobot gets a 7.

Rattrap007’s Trivia

Last week’s answer: Rattrap plays a Street Fighter-style game, a virtual 3D card game and a Doom-style shooter. Noah Connelly got it right. This week’s question comes from the G1 episode Prime’s Target: whom is Prime referring to when he mentions a booby trap that catches boobies?
