Tony Fitz wades into the ATT vs. AllSpark fight on this May 22, 2001 Radio Free Cybertron. His Destroy, Erase, Improve segment rates all six Transformers newsgroups and the AllSpark message boards. Part two of the Satellite of Doom audio book follows. Brian Kilby keeps the show short this week because of a family illness, with a rebroadcast of the RFC Anniversary Show to close.
Destroy, Erase, Improve: Rating the Transformers Newsgroups
Tony Fitz takes on the ATT vs. AllSpark thread with his own opinions on every major Transformers forum. He calls the two marketplace groups low-traffic spots for bargains and parts, like a missing Grimlock sword or Terrorcon guns. alt.toys.transformers.fanfic is a fine group for fan fiction readers, he says, but offers little feedback for writers. He argues Transformers loses its transforming effect as plain text on a page.
Tony likes the posters on alt.toys.transformers.classic.moderated and praises its Cartoon Viewing Club. Still, he won’t post there because of the classic tag. He says beasts have always been part of Transformers, pointing to the Terrorcons and Monstercons. He names rec.toys.transformers.moderated the best group, with the smartest posters and the broadest topics. Its traffic is so low, though, that he begs listeners to post there.
alt.toys.transformers is the most prolific place to read about Transformers, in Tony’s view, but full of spam and “me too” replies. He wishes more people read the FAQ first. He saves his harshest words for AllSpark and EasyBoard message boards. Pop-up ads, scripts, huge images and unthreaded pages lock up even his new computer. His verdict: ATT wins, and he invites angry email for a follow-up.
Satellite of Doom, Part Two
Part two of the Transformers audio book plays next. Megatron and Soundwave aim a diamond lens satellite at the Rocky Mountains to melt them into an ocean of oil. Skyfire flies a doomed attack with Ratchet’s booster tanks. Optimus Prime’s squadron then bounces the beam back with a giant metal mirror, destroying the satellite. Megatron and Soundwave escape underground.
RFC Anniversary Show Rebroadcast
Brian closes the week with a rebroadcast of the RFC Anniversary Show, which he calls one of the better RFCs. He hopes to return next week with a full show.
