The RFC Mini-cast – 002: Masterpiece Tracks, and Transformers games

A fuzzy prototype photo of Masterpiece Tracks sparks talk of repaints, Masterpiece Jazz and a better Masterpiece Megatron. John and Melllvarr then dig into Transformers Battle Tactics, from Seeker teams to $100 pay-to-win tiers.

Masterpiece Tracks leads the second RFC Mini-cast, with John DeLuna and Melllvarr reading a single fuzzy prototype photo. They talk repaint potential, the long wait for Masterpiece Jazz and Ironhide, and what a Megatron redo needs to fix. The second half covers Transformers Battle Tactics: Seeker teams, first strike, matchmaking and steep pay-to-win price tiers.

Masterpiece Tracks From One Fuzzy Photo

With only a black-and-white prototype photo to go on, Melllvarr calls Masterpiece Tracks promising but out of left field. He expected Ironhide or Jazz first. John expects Road Rage, and Melllvarr adds Diaclone and yellow Alternators colors as easy repaints. Melllvarr thinks the hips are turned, making the figure look narrower than the final toy. He guesses the Corvette license came easily through Hasbro’s movie ties with GM. The pair note a rumor that Tracks is MP-25 and Ironhide MP-26. [Source: not found]

Waiting on Jazz

Melllvarr says the Datsun brothers already have most of the engineering for Masterpiece Jazz. John puts Jazz on the Mount Rushmore of original Transformers and expects Stepper and a G2 redeco to follow.

Masterpiece Megatron, Take Two

Neither host bought the first Masterpiece Megatron. John says it never knew whether it was a giant G1 toy or a cartoon tribute. He hopes the next one puts robot mode ahead of gun mode. Melllvarr praises MP-10 Optimus Prime and also owns MP-01. Melllvarr would even accept a tank, though he expects purists to object. Both love Classics Megatron, and Melllvarr bought it three times, including the Henkei and United versions.

Transformers Battle Tactics

John runs a Decepticon team of Ramjet, Dirge, Skywarp and Runamuck. Melllvarr, also a Seeker fan, uses Starscream, Acid Storm, Thundercracker and Viper. John explains the four-on-four, turn-based format and the first-strike roll. Both grumble about matchmaking against higher-level teams. John calls the game pay to win; he spent $5 to support it, and Melllvarr has spent nothing. Melllvarr finds a $99.99 ‘best value’ tier still in the store.

Combiners and Secret Characters

Nacelle has appeared as a newer character with two first-strike chances when maxed. Superion and Arcee appear on the boot screen, and a combiner tab holds only the Mini-Con team for now. Combiner Wars characters such as Breakdown, Dragstrip and Alpha Bravo are already in the game. John jokes that collecting five members for a combiner will keep players around. Melllvarr calls Battle Tactics addictive fun next to the Angry Birds Transformers game, which he deleted.
