Studio Series 86-31 Commander Class Optimus Prime Revealed

Studio Series 86 Optimus Prime is up for preorder, packaging and all. Rusted Cross predicted in the Discord that every host would be lukewarm but buy it anyway. One host loves it, especially the blast effects and lift-off pieces that recreate Optimus Prime’s iconic movie moments. One host thinks it looks too wide and blocky head-on, so he ordered the Dramatic Capture set instead. The crew agreed the truck mode looks great, with real truck windows carried into the chest. Evan Brooks’s behind-the-scenes post shows it head and shoulders taller than Earthrise Optimus Prime. The trailer holds Roller and a Deluxe Autobot car, and butterfly shoulders and a Matrix chamber cover round it out. Don says it will be his last G1 Optimus Prime. One host has heard it is selling incredibly well, with Amazon’s first stock gone in about an hour. The crew is now hopeful for a Studio Series 86 Megatron with removable tank parts. Comic-Con 2024 Friday Hasbro Transformers Panel

Hasbro’s SDCC Transformers panel is Friday, July 26, from 6 to 7 p.m. Pacific. With G.I. Joe Classified in the spotlight this year, one host wondered if Hasbro will hold back on Transformers. Another expects a look at early 2025 product and wonders whether the Legacy name will continue. [Source: TFW2005]

Super7 Transformers SDCC 2024 Exclusives

Super7’s SDCC exclusives include a shirt plus ReAction Grimlock and Unicron in G1-style boxes. The crew could not spot any difference from the existing ReAction Unicron beyond the box. One host noted a truly G1-accurate release would have had no window. Two hosts would back a Hasbro G1 Unicron HasLab in seconds. [Source: TFW2005]

First Episode of Masterforce Rescanned in 4K From 16mm Film

The people behind TFRaw.com obtained the original 16mm film of Masterforce’s first episode and had it rescanned in 4K. One host noted it proves the resolution exists, though he does not expect more episodes. The crew agreed Masterforce is cool and people should watch it. [Source: YouTube]

Transformers Legacy Star Rider Deluxe Road Pig In-Hand Images

Star Raiders Road Pig finally appeared in hand. The crew loves the colors, the Transformers lettering on the gas tank and the G2 Decepticon symbol. One host would like the mold redone in Road Pig’s unreleased Soundwave colors or as Sideways. [Source: TFW2005]

Transformers One Quintesson High Commander In-Hand Images

The Transformers One Quintesson High Commander does not look awful in hand. One host likes its organic spaceship mode and sees it as a companion to the Earthrise Quintesson judges, and the crew sees some Alpha Q in it. [Source: TFW2005]

Transformers Legacy United Leader Armada Galvatron In-Hand Images

In-hand photos of Legacy Armada Galvatron improve on the early images, and its purple-blue looks better now. One host still is not buying it, but he admits it looks marginally better than Legacy Armada Megatron. [Source: TFW2005]

Legacy Leader Soundwave is in hand. The crew joked that it is really Legacy Leader Buzzsaw and friends. [Source: TFW2005]

Transformers Legacy United Versus Multipack Found at US Retail

The Target Legacy United four-pack is in stores but street dated for July 21, and Target.com appears to be shipping preorders. One host talked himself into ordering one during the show. [Source: TFW2005]

Studio Series Dead Brawn and Ratchet 2-Pack Found at US Retail

The Studio Series 86 Ratchet and Brawn two-pack is also at Target. One host is waiting for clearance. The crew noted Target sold its Target Optimus Prime set on eBay for about $30, and two hosts grabbed one. [Source: TFW2005]

What We Got This Week

Chris

Chris got Studio Series 86 Swoop, completing his Dinobots. It is the simplest of the five, with a collapsing chest and a nicely bulked-out neck. He loves the blue robot body and the two swords, though he rates the Power of the Primes Swoop as a slightly better action figure. Overall, he ranks Slug first, then Grimlock and Swoop. Thanks to Wheeljack64, he also got Studio Series 86 Springer through a transferred preorder. The retooling looks great, especially the head, but it keeps Siege Springer’s fiddly chest unlock. Chris feels the accessories do not justify a nearly $60 Leader price, though it is the best cartoon-accurate triple-changing Springer likely to exist.

Matt

Matt got Ferak, which is grayer than he expected, with a snug, well-holding mold. He still wants a Shattered Glass Cyclonus and Killing Jar. From Big Bad Toy Store he got the Generations Selects GoBots three-pack. Treads is fine, Pathfinder is beautiful with the GoBots flag tampo, and Small Foot on the Gears mold is great. He calls Gears his Deluxe of the year.

Rob

Rob got Transformers One Alpha Trion, the non-Studio Series Deluxe, from Suruga-ya in a Japanese box. It has a simple, satisfying transformation with a Beast Wars feel, good articulation and lovely metallic purple.

Don

Don got Studio Series 86 Bumblebee and Ferak. He would love to see the Ferak mold turned into Deathcharge. From Hasbro Pulse he got cel-shaded Comic Edition Shockwave, which looks better than he expected. He also got the Yolopark Optimus Prime kit on a Walmart special to go with last week’s Megatron.

Diecast

Diecast bought Legacy Vector Prime at Walmart because its solar panel shield had fallen out of the box. It has a few tolerance issues but is pretty nice. He also got the Walmart 40th anniversary G1 Soundwave, but only one, because they sold out.

John DeLuna

John got Party Wallop and calls it one of the best collaborations to date. It feels weighty and well made, with a nice transformation and a ball-jointed head. It stores every accessory, including heads and weapons for all four turtles, and its belt buckle spins to each turtle’s initial. His only nitpicks are a backpack that unclips and a plain unmasked face. He notes Nonnef is making a kit to turn it into Metalhead.

Brian Kilby

Brian found Walmart clearing out Rise of the Beasts, and he grabbed the Bumblebee and Optimus Primal masks for $8 each. He also bought 15 of the 40th anniversary G1 Soundwave for trade fodder, which explains Diecast’s luck. And, as Rusted Cross predicted, Brian preordered Studio Series 86 Optimus Prime during the show.
