Studio Series 86 Cyclonus, Blitzwing, and Cliffjumper Revealed at CCXP

Studio Series 86 Cyclonus gets new legs and a new head at CCXP, but Cliffjumper’s colors land backwards. Iron Studios’ G1 Soundwave impresses. Brian finally owns a boxed G1 Battle Gaia.

Listen · RFC 985

Hasbro revealed Studio Series 86 Cyclonus, Blitzwing and Cliffjumper at CCXP Mexico, and Cyclonus’s new legs and head win the crew over. Cliffjumper does not, thanks to reversed leg colors and a missing chest spoiler. The crew remembers Gerry Conway, writer of two G1 Transformers episodes, and praises Iron Studios’ G1 Soundwave statue. In What We Got This Week, Brian lands a boxed G1 Battle Gaia and grades Diaclone Shield-D Prime a C-plus.

CCXP Mexico 2026 Display Images: SS86 Cliffjumper, Cyclonus, Blitzwing & More

Cyclonus is one of Brian’s favorite toys ever, and he is happy to buy it again. One host walked through the changes: entirely new legs, a new head, and knees that now lock into ports. The outside-hinging knees cost the jet’s rear thruster covers, but they add a bit of height. One host said the new head fixes his one major problem with the Kingdom version. Another noted his Kingdom Cyclonus’s nylon parts have started yellowing, and at least the elbows have been recast. Blitzwing differs from the Dramatic Capture version mainly in its brighter, more saturated colors and unpainted sword. Don already has Blitzwing and Overcharge on the mold, and the crew told him to skip it if he’s happy. Cliffjumper’s car mode is spot on, but the mold’s color layout reverses the gray and black on his legs and waist. His spoiler also isn’t on his chest. One host will keep his Buzzworthy Cliffjumper, and another won’t buy until someone fixes the colors. Don pointed out an unpainted gray patch above the rear wheel that the eye can’t stop finding. Remembering Gerry Conway, 1952-2026

Comics writer Gerry Conway has died at 73. He wrote the death of Gwen Stacy and introduced the Punisher. He also wrote the G1 Transformers episodes “Forever Is a Long Time Coming” and “Money Is Everything.” The crew remembered him as an incredibly prolific writer at both Marvel and DC. [Source: Marvel]

Iron Studios Transformers G1 Soundwave 1/20 Statue

Brian says this looks dramatically better than the AI-looking statues another company showed a few months ago. The crew likes that Soundwave isn’t over-grimified and comes with Buzzsaw. One host wishes Laserbeak were an option, though that would add to the price. The statue stands 11.5 inches, and the crew noted few statues land under $500. The face looks off, likely from the flat top of the mouth plate. [Source: TFW2005]

DNA Design DK-69P Max Sword Upgrade Kit

DNA Design’s purple Max Sword redeco goes with Omega Prime, but Don is fine with the sword he has. One host likes all the configurations it offers, especially for Fortress Maximus. [Source: TFW2005]

Newage Toys H75A Snow, H75B Swan, H75C Cowboy, H75D Cleon, H75E Ajax & H75F Rembrandt (Legends Scale Junkions) Color Prototypes

The crew says the Newage Junkions all look fantastic despite shared parts. Newage also showed a Sideswipe with several decos, including G2. Don noted Show-Z Store has Wyatt, their Wreck-Gar, for $55 shipped, versus $85 at Big Bad Toy Store. One host laughed at the idea of $80 artisan third-party figures at Hasbro’s small, cheap scale. One host paid $49 for a Newage figure in 2020. [Source: TFW2005]

Dr Wu DW-E66 & DW-E67 Tanystropheus & Stegosaurus (Micromaster Scale Sludge & Snarl) Color Renders

Brian asked Matt, the crew’s dinosaur enthusiast, to pronounce Tanystropheus. The crew expects these Micromaster Dinobots to form a combiner. [Source: TFW2005]

Magic Square Toys MS-B63 ENIAC-No.2 (Legends Scale Nosecone) Color Prototype

Don has the Craftsman Toys Nosecone. He likes that Magic Square’s version is a little stylized, like third party used to be. He is passing because he is getting the Bingo Toys Masterpiece-scale Technobots. [Source: TFW2005]

Episode 1000 Plans

Brian is working on content for episode 1000, due in early August. He wants to replay what the crew actually said when the biggest Transformers news of the last 27 years broke. He asked listeners to send the moments they’d want to hear through Discord, email, Facebook or Instagram. One host suggested the crew’s first reactions to Revenge of the Fallen, and Matt suggested the last BotCon.

What We Got This Week

Matt

Matt had nothing in Transformers this week.

Diecast

Diecast got Swerve and gave it to Sean as thanks for hanging out with him. He also got Studio Series Transformers One Thundercracker. He loves that the head is truly different from Starscream’s, not just a new expression, and now he’s excited for Skywarp.

Don

Don got the Go Better Studios upgrade kit for Studio Series 86 Windcharger from TFSafari, about $17 shipped with a coupon. It plugs the holes in his backside and fills the hollow inner legs. The fillers hinge out of the way, so no parts-forming. The red is slightly off, but Don says it’s far less noticeable than the gaps. Windcharger and Trailbreaker are two of his low-key favorites, and he recommends the kit.

Rob

Rob had nothing in Transformers this week.

John DeLuna

John had nothing in Transformers this week.

Brian

Brian has now transformed Diaclone Shield-D Prime. He loves the premium joints, which he likes better than modern Masterpiece. It does Transformers well, but it doesn’t really feel like a Zoid or a Diaclone. It lacks the accessory count and customization of the new Diaclone toys. The lion head is the centerpiece, and Optimus Prime feels like an afterthought. He grades it a C-plus to B. He doesn’t regret it and understands why John liked it. A Walmart clearance aisle gave him the NFL Steelers helmet Transformer for $17, which he bought because JD loved the Steelers. From Mandarake he got a sealed Takara Break vs. Dead End set, replacing Sonokong versions. The big one is a mint-in-box G1 Battle Gaia from a private sale. The box and styrofoam are in great shape, and the toys are complete. Brian joked that he’d only gotten the instructions until Diecast spoiled the bit. Don, a huge Bruticus fan, said he hates Brian but is very happy for him.
